Day 335 - Lace and book page bunting

Last week the kids had their 140 years celebrations at school which went wonderfully well. The kids loved dressing up and they looked fabulous. They also all got to spend some time experiencing a classroom with old desks and slate boards, and lessons as they would have been back then. The week concluded with a fun bush dance and there will be some other events going on later in the year I think. Here are a couple of photos I took of them before they went off the school in their outfits.

Today I have made some more book page bunting, this time sewing it to some lace from my stash of inherited lace.

I found this book in an op shop and just fell in love with the illustrations. They are so quirky.

It was then just a case of choosing some of the similarly sized pictures, cutting them out and sewing them to the lace.

There are a couple of larger images that I would like to frame at a later date too.

Day 240 - Yee Haa Cowboy Bunting

Amazing, amazing concert by Coldplay last night. Just love Chris Martin's energy and the joy with which he performs. He has such a boyish joy and charm, together with an amazing voice, melodies and energy. Loved it! And now back to real life.

Cowboy bunting. This is for Mr Dylan's first birthday, which is fast approaching. I just thought this fabric was so cute.

Day 208 - Little Golden Book Bunting.

We love books in our house and have hundreds upon hundreds of beautiful and well loved children's books. Sometime I come across one that has been damaged, or that we bought second hand with damage done to it.

I have been thinking of a way to recycle this particular book for a while, and decided today to combine my love for bunting with my love for children's books.

This was so easy to make.

I cut out identical shapes from all of the pages. I chose this shape because it showed off the pictures best and didn't waste too much of the page.

Then I simply sewed it to some ric rac with a small zig zag stitch. If you can't sew a hot glue gun would work just as well.

I love it! Aidan had a bare wall in his room that it's just perfect for. The pictures are so bright, interesting and colourful.

Day 110 - Mini Bunting Lightshade

The hotglue gun has been out again attaching these mini bunting I made the other day onto another paper lightshade. You have to be pretty careful with this, as once you glue it on you can't really reposition without ripping the paper. Mine is a little bit wonky in places but I still like it and I still adore this mini bunting.

Day 108 - Mini Bunting

I am totally enamoured with this mini bunting I made using some fabric scraps and bias binding.The little triangles are about 3cm long and it's just adorable. And it's even easier to make than the bigger bunting that I do which is double sided.

Day 59 - How to make bunting - easy.

I made some bunting today for a birthday coming up in our house next week.

Here's how you make it. You can use up lots of fabric scraps

Firstly cut your triangles to whatever size you would like to make your bunting. Mine are 30cm on one slightly longer side and about 28cm on the other two sides.

Next, sew them up on the two shorter sides, leaving the bottom open. Turn right side out and use a chopstick or something pointy to poke out the point and the end.

You don't need to worry about being too neat with the ends and raw edge because it will be hidden anyway.

Press the triangles with a hot iron and then top stitch along the two sewn sides nice and close to the edge. I used a red thread for contrast.

Next I just use some bias binding to hang them off.

Fold and iron the bias binding in half along it's length and then slip the triangles between the two layers and pin in place. I like to leave a little gap between each triangle. The spacing depends on personal taste.

 Sew along the whole length of the binding. Mine was a 3m length.

Here they are hanging up - I made the pink ones a couple of years ago for my daughter's birthday.
