Day 108 - Mini Bunting

I am totally enamoured with this mini bunting I made using some fabric scraps and bias binding.The little triangles are about 3cm long and it's just adorable. And it's even easier to make than the bigger bunting that I do which is double sided.

Day 74 - Drawstring bags

I'm very busy getting everything ready for a stall I'm having at a baby and kids market this weekend. I'm just selling off a bit of 'garage sale' type stuff but I can't believe how much work there has been in sorting it out and washing and cleaning it. I'll be glad when it's over. Between a baby and the kids and the dogs there has been a lot of sleep disruptions this week too!

Anyway today is a super simple and quick one. I have just made a couple of drawstring bags. You can make them in any size to use up leftover fabric and you don't need any special sewing skills. I sometimes make little ones for party treat bags and just use the overlocker instead of the sewing machine. You can see I used lace instead of string for the larger bag.

They are handy for storing things in - and really good for those toys with lots of little parts that tend to end up all around the house.

Thanks again to all those who read my blog and keep me motivated, I can't believe I've managed to keep going because the last 3 plus weeks of my life have been so crazy. Day 35 - Reclaimed chair gets a second life.

I live on a bush block of 7 1/2  acres and I recently found this old chair around the side of my house (I moved in about 4 months ago). It was behind my water tanks so I hadn't really been around there since we bought the place. It was a bit weathered and slightly warped but still very strong and quite comfortable to sit on. I knew it needed rescuing as soon as I laid eyes on it. I've been working on it for a couple of days and here it is.

I still wanted it too have an old shabby look so I cleaned it up a bit and then added a thin layer of paint in some mauve and rose. Here it is after a wee bit of paint.

Then I used some decoupage glue to glue strips of fabric to the seat area and some lace along the top.

Finally, I made the back piece. For the back I used this gorgeous Amy Butler fabric from my stash and sewed on a pink fleece backing to make it soft to lean into and also to add body to the fabric. I stretched this around the chair and nailed it to the back.

There you have it, a tea party chair.  All ready for scones and tea. Well, Andy likes it anyway.

Day 22 - Pillow case plus old beach robe = funky little dude

About 2 years ago I bought this African print pillow case at my local op shop for 50 cents. A little while later I also bought a giant chenille beach robe/caftan that was quite old and worn through in a few places and sold as a dog blanket - also for 50 cents. I am still able to find parts of the robe where the chenille has life left in it. I am loving them both to bits.

The pillow case was first used to make a pair of pants for my son Aidan. He is wearing them in this picture below and the back of the pillow case was different from the front which made a lovely contrast. People often ask me where I got them when he wears them.

I love making a wide legged style for my kids because they grow so fast and when the pants become too short they also look great as 3/4 pants and long shorts. These have been worn by my son from age 1 and he still wears them now  - he'll be 3 in July. I find my kids slim down a bit during this time so the waist doesn't change much. I still had a little bit of this gorgeous pillow case left and really wanted to make another pair of pants that were similar but different for my baby boy who is now 4 1/2 months old.

And the finished product. I have made these in a size one to eventually be worn by my youngest son but they're being modelled by my 2 and 3/4 year old so you can see how they can keep wearing them as they grow.

Day 19 - A thankyou card from 3 munchkins from a travelling campsite craft cupboard

We needed to make a thank you card from 3 little kidlets for some lovely people who very generously gave them some gifts recently. This is what we ended up making. It was supposed to look like a patchwork quilt with the 3 of them under it. We got the idea from a book by Anna Maria Horner. http://www.annamariahorner.com/  I don't think ours ended up looking quite like a quilt but I still think it's cute. You can use tiny scraps of fabric for this one and cut them up and stick them onto cardboard to make a little quilt.
